There's Nothing Weird in Torchbearer Sauces - Just Great-tasting Ingredients

Vid and BenWith a successful run of spicy dinner parties and an abundance of habanero peppers growing in their gardens, three friends  –– Ben Smith, Tim Wortman, and Vid Lynch –– along with Vid’s parents, Tom and Tricia, thought it would be a good idea to start a business. That was eleven years ago. Today they are the successful owners of Torchbearer Sauces

As Ben tells the story, “When we were all in college together and beyond, we would make incredibly hot spicy spaghetti sauces, and we’d invite friends to dinner. We would have about 20 to 30 people over every week for seven years.”  Ben continues, “The hot sauces we started with didn’t have the flavor or the heat we were looking for so we began using habanero peppers, and then we started growing habaneros because we got into gardening for a bit. Finally, we each had our own garden of habanero. The parties started to finally die down, and we decided that we couldn’t let the habaneros go to waste, because they’re an amazing pepper. We did our research online on how to create a habanero preserve. We made that and it was so good we decided to market it. Our first sauce was the Sultry Sauce using the habanero preserves we made.”

Since then, as Vid, the Sauce Boss and Ben, the Sauce Crafter of the York, PA business say, “It’s been an amazing time for us. It’s been a lot of hard work; some rough times; and all worth it.” They started with a single sauce using their habanero preserve, and now the business now has 23 products, including 11 best sellers (listed in no particular order): Oh My Garlic; Smokey Horseradish; Psycho Curry; Pineapple Papaya BBQ; Carolina Style BBQ: Chipotle BBQ; Sultry; Tarnation; Zombie Apocalypse; Rapture; and Honey Mustard.

Vid and Ben highlight the value they place on producing products using all natural ingredients and no preservatives. “As a business, our main goal is to provide the best tasting, all natural sauces and condiments. There is nothing artificial in any of our products. We’re all about the best ingredients for the best flavors. That’s what we’re most proud of – making delicious sauces without having to resort to using anything weird.”

Make sure you stop by the Doylestown Food Market to try a sample of one of these delicious spicy sauces for your summer cookout condiments during our two demo dates: Saturday, July 9 and 23, from 10:30 – 12:30.
