Trickling Springs Creamery (TSC) offers a full line of organic and farm friendly milks, creams, butter, cheese, and ice cream. Their products can be found in a variety of locations including the Doylestown Food Co-op. The fresh dairy products are from grass-fed cows. The feed is GMO-free and the cows never receive any added hormones. When Joe Miller, Marketing Manager is asked, “Who are the producers,” he answers, “The happy cows.”
Trickling Springs Creamery thinks of itself as the conduit between the farmers and the customers. “The more we can become invisible in the middle, the better the products become.” Highlighting the excellent job the community of family farmers is doing is paramount to customer loyalty.
The business started in 2001 with one farm; in 2007 TSC expanded their outreach adding more farms, especially organic farms. They started a “Farmers for Life” program to support conventional farmers to switch to organic. Making the transition from conventional to organic is expensive, with many steps. The farmers were told, “We will sign you up if you’re aligned with our ecological system, if you abide by our core principals, and our set of standards. We will pay you extra to change from conventional to organic such as allowing cows to be pastured year round, and grass fed, with minimal amounts of non-GMO verified feed.”
TSC supports their farmers every step of the way while in the transition. The Farm Friend program lasts about one to two years. Once a farm is in that program, it’s another year or two for them to become certified organic. TSC is currently working with 25 organic farms, 3 transitional farms, and 4 goat farms.
Trickling Springs Creamery is all about building the relationship between customers and farmers. To that end they are launching a series about their family of farmers entitled, “The Way It’s Supposed To Be.” There are two videos that can previewed at this time:
Soon there will be profiles, interviews, and videos of all the farmers of which Trickling Springs Creamery is so very proud of representing.
Make sure you stop by the Co-op to sample Trickling Springs Creamery products on two dates: Saturday, June 6, 10:30am-12:30pm, for a taste of milk and cheeses, and Thursday, June 25, from 4:30pm – 6:30pm for an ice cream treat.
