February means snow days, Cupid and chocolate—specifically, Didi’s Chocolates. Our healthy heart season Producer of the Month, Didi Mercier creates pure, all natural chocolates that are a true treat.
Didi got her start in sweets about 30 years ago when she was a stay-at-home mom of three young children. She needed a creative outlet, one she could work on while the kids were napping. “Back then,” Better Homes and Gardens magazine featured exquisitely complex and detailed pastry recipes. After much trial and error, Didi was soon making delicious, all-natural, European-style (to please her French husband) pastries for friends and family.
As her children and her talent grew, Didi turned her hobby into something bigger. After working as a pastry chef for Bucks County gourmet chef and caterer Jamie Hollander, she decided to make the leap into the art of making fine chocolates. In 2010, she completed the Professional Chocolatier Program at Ecole Chocolat—and Hollander became her first business account.
Didi is thrilled to provide the Doylestown Food Co-op with a wide array of freshly made chocolates. She prides herself on her confections having a short life from shelf to customer. They will certainly fly off our shelves this month at 20 percent off!
Be sure and stop by to sample Didi’s divine chocolates during our first Fun Friday event, February 6 from 4:30 to 6:30 pm. Satisfy your sweet tooth and sip some wine or cider while listening to the great music of the duo Too Many Cooks. Didi will also be here with samples on Valentine’s Day, February 14, from 12:30 to 2:30 pm.
