Meet Joanna Chodorowska, BA, NC, TPTH - holistic sports nutrition coach and elite tri-athlete! Through her business, Nutrition in Motion, Joanne shares her knowledge and experiences with her clients in assisting them in finding balance, vitality and optimal performance physically, mentally and emotionally. Coupled with her use of real food nutrition, energy work and essential oils, she assists individuals in reconnecting to their body’s innate ability to heal itself. As Joanna says, “What makes my practice unique is that I incorporate the emotional aspect of all conditions. It’s about working with the mind-body-spirit to help bring the body back into balance.”
Joanna states, “My primary work is to identify where the symptoms and imbalances are originating and then help create a plan to alleviate those symptoms and bring the body back into balance. When the body is out of balance is when we usually have symptoms of dis-ease.” She continues, “Symptoms of imbalance can include the inability to recover from illness, fatigue, muscle and joint pain, depression, food cravings, gastrointestinal distress, and the inability to lose weight.”
Nutrition in Motion came into existence 12 years ago. Joanna refers to herself as “my own test subject before that.” Her own path to balance started with a diagnosis of adrenal exhaustion and then again when she degenerated a hip. “I learned pain can disappear with an anti-inflammatory nutrition plan and through healing emotions.” While steeped in degrees and course certifications, Joanna says that much of her training and education is experiential. “Most of my knowledge comes from the experiences I’ve had through my own journey to health as well as helping other clients to health.” Her own journey has included working with a holistic nutritionist, a holistic doctor, reading, and receiving a variety of acupuncture, craniosacral, and chiropractic treatments, Joanna learned how the body can heal given the right tools. She added, “Nutrition is only part of it. You also have to deal with the stress, the sleep issues, the movement or lack of movement, finding the right kind of movement, and finding that spiritual connection because all of it is to help find that balance.”
To this day, Joanna remains open and curious to finding out what works best for her clients through trying new things. “It’s not a ‘one way fits everybody’ – that’s the thing. There’s only one general guideline I consistently follow with all of my clients which is that I always work on balancing the blood sugar first. Once you balance the blood sugar the body starts to balance on various other levels but then there’s the other parts we have to work on.” Joanna says there’s always more to learn. “I will never say that I know it all. I’m inspired to always be looking and learning and saying, ‘Oh, that looks interesting; let’s try that.’”
