Calling members interested in our new Food Transparency Committee and our new Producer Directory!
We are so thrilled to announce the new Local Producer Directory on our website!
Our Doylestown Food Market is all about:
- Local, Local, Local,
- Nutritious food for healthy people,
- Knowing where your food came from and what is (and is not) in it, and
- Our community.
Our new directory showcases all of our local producers and provides you with information about them and their practices as well as links to their own websites. So one might ask the question, “How does a producer get to be in the Doylestown Food Market?”
Many years ago, even before we opened our doors at 29 West State Street, a committee of devoted co-op members created our Doylestown Food Market Product Policy. We hope you will review it. Essentially, local is our top priority with organic following close behind. And the further a product must travel to make it to Doylestown, the more it must fit our other criteria, such as fair trade or environmentally responsible. We want to ensure that you have the information you need to make your own choices about all of the products we have in the Market.
Food Transparency Committee
As a cooperative, we exist to meet the needs of our member-owners. Our product policy must, therefore, not be carved in stone but responsive to those needs. One of the needs we have identified is to create a new ad hoc committee, called the Food Transparency Committee, that will help us to update our product policy and further vet our existing and potential producers. Both online research and local site visits will be a part of that vetting process. Our store manager, Andrea Haines, will lead that committee. If you are interested in being a part of it, please let us know by emailing Andrea at this email address.
