Meet Mimi Warren, MS, CNN, Certified Clinical Nutritionist, Doylestown Food Market member, eco-system partner, and highlighted partner of the month. Mimi offers individual nutrition assessments and counseling, workshops, grocery store tours, and writes a free monthly newsletter. With the ability to cover a range of health goals with her clients, her specialties are weight loss (especially those that have fought the weight loss rollercoaster for years), cardiovascular issues (high blood pressure, high cholesterol, etc) and women’s health (PMS, menopause, etc). Mimi also works with clients with autoimmune disease, IBS and other health conditions that can benefit from dietary changes.
What stood out to me while talking with Mimi is how much her own personal experiences and struggles from childhood and into her young adult years inform her practice as she helps others with their weight and health issues. In addition, she brings her experience of being a holistic mom and responding to her son’s requests and preferences for food choices during his formative years to working with other parents about their food concerns with their children. It’s all about not having to be perfect and creating realistic measures of success. I smiled as I heard Mimi say, “One strip of bacon won’t kill you; and one carrot isn’t going to make you healthy.” It’s all about the balance.
Bringing a unique orientation to her work, Mimi focuses on the root cause - not just the symptoms - of health issues. “Many health conditions and weight issues are a result of diet, and changes in the diet can positively impact disease. Medications are the preferred choice for many doctors, but this does not address the underlying reason for many symptoms and does not necessarily fix the problem.” In her consults with clients Mimi designs a plan that work specifically for them. “I do not have a one dimensional approach to eating. The plan I create works with each client’s food preferences and their lifestyle.” It’s important to Mimi for her clients to understand the reasons behind the changes they are making. She also values spending time to get to know each of her clients personally and discuss all the aspects of their life that affect eating. “I work to help clients accomplish their goals as well as instill confidence with their food choices and ultimately improve their life. I strive to insure trust in my clients that I have their back and my goal is for them is to succeed.”
When asked what inspires her, Mimi had a quick response: “I am inspired by people and how strong and resilient they are. Everyone has had events that have affected their lives, whether positively or negatively. I love helping people succeed and their success is the biggest reward for me.” Mimi values perseverance and enjoys being the cheerleader, the supporter, and when necessary, holding clients accountable for the goal to be accomplished. She’s inspired when she sees an individual evolve from one who controls their eating or uses food for comfort into a more relaxed, confident and happy person. ‘Healthy eating is not rigid or strict. It involves flexibility and enjoyment. Food can offer so much to the senses - taste, textures, smells and visual appeal. It is these simple things that bring enjoyment to eating and life.
