One rule Jason Fehon, son of Bill, and family member producer of Bill’s Best Organic BBQ Sauces, lives by when it comes to running his business: always thank the customer. “There’s a lot of BBQ sauces out there – you chose ours – that means something to us. Thank you for buying our sauce.” He learned that from his DJ days at radio station WMMR, where you can still catch him broadcasting on Saturday mornings. Early on he learned to thank his listeners for tuning into the radio station when there are so many other options.
Visiting Jason at the production facility in Glenside, I had the opportunity to learn the backstory of how the business originated. And in this case, the backstory is what the business is all about. As Jason says, “We’re more than just a company; more than just a family-owned business. We’re doing this for a cause.” The cause: to raise awareness and funds for a rare form of dementia called Frontotemporal Degeneration.
Bill Fehon was diagnosed at the age of 55 in 2009. By 2011, Jason and family decided to bottle and sell the recipe his father came up with when the kids were young, and that others always encouraged Bill to bottle and produce. Ten percent of the business profits are donated to the Association for Frontotemporal Degeneration(AFTD) in Radnor, PA.
During the month of May you will have a couple of opportunities to meet Jason and sample Bill’s Best Organic BBQ Sauces at the Co-op. First Fun Friday, May 1, Jason will be offering taste tests with the three flavors on pinto beans. On Thursday, May 21, from 4:30 – 6:30, join us in sampling Jason’s pulled pork dish seasoned with the new Honey Sauce.
In addition to the samplings, there are two great deals at the Co-op happening in May: As featured producer of the month, all Bill’s Best Organic BBQ Sauces are on sale at 20% off, and at the same time, for every bottle you purchase, you can enter a raffle to win a Weber grill and BBQ apron!
