Planting Seeds For the Future at the Doylestown YMCA Bicentennial Picnic
By: Karen Vanderwall, member owner
On June 2nd the co-op was growing it local at the Y. We joined the Central Bucks YMCA at their Bicentennial Picnic to help Doylestown celebrate its 200th year anniversary of being the county seat of Bucks County. It was a beautiful spring day – inspiring thoughts of the bounty of local fruits and vegetables we will all soon enjoy.
To further demonstrate how locally grown is a community effort, the co-op, along with Cub Scout Pack 71 members C.J Frisbie, Doug Bignoult, Chris Strickland, Josh Galanti, Tyler Morrow and YMCA volunteer Izzy Kondo helped young growers to plant vegetable seeds to take home. At the same time adults were invited to learn more about what a co-op is, how ours works and how a co-op would fill an important niche in our community. We met many folks expressing interest and enthusiasm – it was a great day to grow our co-op! Pictures at "read more"
